IMPRESS YOUR FRIENDS LEARN HOW TO READ EKG ELECTROCARDIOGRAMS EKG READINGS ARE USED TO DIAGNOSE HEART PROBLEMS STUDY PICTURES

Would you like to know how to read an EKG? To an average person an EKG appears to be nothing more than wavy lines and chicken scratchings but to the trained observer an EKG, an electrocardiogram tells a story. It's 3 A.M, you wake up sweating with chest pain. You may be having a heart attack or not. How can you tell if you have a heart attack? You can't. You need to call 911. When they check you one of the first things the doctor will want is an EKG, an electrocardiogram. An EKG displays the electrical activity of the heart. By examining the EKG pattern, the doctor can many times (but not always) make the diagnosis of a heart attack. Certain electrocardiogram changes are characteristic of various types of heart attacks. I say types because when different parts of the heart are damaged different EKG findings result.

You can learn to read EKGs. Like everything else practice makes perfect. Here is an excellent EKG library which is connected with the book ECGs by Example.
